Lights, Camera Action: Free Filmmaking Course
at Moorpark Adult School

(Moorpark, California) August 7, 2024—Calling all future directors! Moorpark Adult School invites aspiring filmmakers to step behind the camera and begin their new cinematic adventure. Moorpark Adult School will launch its new Filmmaking and Media Production class this fall. The free hands-on course is designed to teach students the essentials of making a short film under the expert guidance of Hollywood filmmaker and producer Anahid Yahjian.

Students will learn the fundamentals of filmmaking, from conceptualization to production, with a focus on experimental, documentary and narrative cinema. Throughout the course, students will engage in hands-on projects, gaining practical experience in the art and craft of filmmaking.

This course is perfect for those curious about filmmaking and interested in project-based learning. No prerequisites are required, making it accessible to all levels of experience.

Anahid Yahjian is a filmmaker and producer who has worked with top celebrities such as Billie Eilish, Cardi B, Lil Wayne, and Khalid. Her work is celebrated for its exploration of history, power, memory, liminality, and the surreal and sublime. Yahjian is the owner of Los Angeles-based Medulla Creative. Her visit to our campus last spring inspired many students, and we are excited to have her lead this dynamic course in collaboration with Timothy Maloof, a media productions instructor.

Upon completion of the course, a screening of the students' short films will be held at the end of the fall semester, showcasing their creative achievements.

The class meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Moorpark Adult School, 280 Poindexter Avenue, in Moorpark. The class begins August 27 and runs through December 20.

“We are thrilled to offer this unique course for the first time by bringing a seasoned Hollywood producer and filmmaker to teach adults how to make their very own short film as well as strategies for breaking into the entertainment industry,” Principal Sean Abajian said.

Interested adults can sign up for the Filmmaking and Media Production class online by clicking here. The course is free of charge. Spaces are limited, so early enrollment is encouraged.
